Cool, Fun, and Funny Apps Created at the AT&T Developer Summit/Hackathon

attimageAT&T hosts hackathons all over the United States throughout the year. Then, come January – they host a big blow-out hackathon in Vegas. This year, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Vegas event; and watch, as a large room full of developers came up with really cool mobile and wearable apps. I captured some of them on video – as they presented what they were able to accomplish in just two short days. Enjoy . . .

FitBike: It’s a social biking app that actually gamifies the experience of going on a bike ride. You can link up with people around the world, share routes with friends and much more. This  cool app was conceptualized and created over the course of to days at the AT&T Hackathon in Vegas.

Food Draw: What a cool idea! First, you choose the food type; such as muffin. Then, you can draw the base of your food item. What’s really cool, is that you can pinch and drag to draw the depth of the food. Once you’ve done that – it will tell you how many calories that food item is and ask whether you really want to eat it. It will even tell you what kind of exercise – and for how long – you’ll have to do in order to burn the calories.

ForceNet: What a great tool for law enforcement agencies. Now, with a click on the wrist they can call in backup; know when backup has arrived; and even know how close other officers are.

Imingle: Adding a wearable to the ever increasing market of dating applications is brilliant. With this little wearable app you can walk into any public area; filter down what kind of person you’d like to meet; and accept invitations to meet them if they’re close to you and interested as well. They even came up with a corporate version that helps teams form.

Lonely Pillow: This app is simply fun and something the crowd at the AT&T Developer Summit really got a kick out of and enjoyed.

PebbleShake: I need this! I need it now. Are you like me and really bad with remembering names? Well, this app solves that problem. Let’s say you meet someone new and you’re both wearing Pebbles with this app running. Simply shake hands and it stores the other persons name and company. It even takes their LinkedIn address so you can invite them to connect later. I love this thing.

PebbleWhack: Now even pets are wearing Pebbles. This is a pretty cool concept that allows you to put your dog in a virtual fence. Once your dog breaks the perimeter you get a text message; lights turning on in the house and more. They even came up with a cool little song to advertise the app 🙂

Purr: This team received a ton of attention during the hackathon. Why? They used a 3D printer to create their wearable. This cool little concept tracks your heart rate and if increasing will send soothing pictures to your phone via sms. It’s a really cool concept that – as you can imagine – has unlimited uses.

SpotAparty: I can see this awesome mobile app used at clubs everywhere. Imagine walking into a club and seeing what music they’re going to be playing. Better yet, imagine being able to up-vote or down-vote the songs in the list. Even Better, imagine being able to suggest any song that’s in the Spotify database. That’s right, the whole app runs in the Spotify application. Sooo Cool!
